Senator Karen Nyamu found herself on the receiving end of a rowdy crowd on Sunday when she took the stage at Natalie Githinji’s Endometriosis Warriors (N.E.W) awareness event, held at the KICC Comesa Grounds in Nairobi.
The event, which ran on Sunday, September 27, drew thousands of attendees who filled the auditorium’s red chairs in what was billed as a free-entry concert and advocacy rally designed to celebrate, sensitise, and empower women living with endometriosis.

Footage captured at the event and shared by Mpasho News on Instagram shows Nyamu addressing the packed auditorium from a stage fitted with a microphone, with sponsor banners from RFH Healthcare Cancer Centre visible in the background.
As she spoke, sections of the crowd began chanting “Wantam,” heckling the senator mid-speech in what quickly became one of the event’s most talked-about moments.
Despite the interruptions, Nyamu pushed through her address, touching on endometriosis advocacy and referencing Parliamentary processes.
She told the crowd she had given notice to move a motion on the issue on 10th September, describing the scale of the problem as affecting up to 40 million women.
“We are left to bring this issue to Parliament,” she said, adding that a new government had helped bring the matter before standards bodies.

Organised by Natalie Githinji, the N.E.W awareness event was conceived as a platform to bring public attention to endometriosis, a condition that affects millions of women across the world but remains widely misunderstood and underdiagnosed in Kenya. The KICC venue, with its distinctive wooden-slatted walls and crystal chandeliers, was filled to capacity, reflecting the growing public interest in women’s health conversations in the country.
