Romoke Lasisi, a Nigerian graduate who once worked as a cleaner at Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), has completed her degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) with a 4.94 out of 5.00 CGPA, earning First Class honours during the 2024 academic session.

Her story drew widespread attention as netizens celebrated Romoke’s journey from the banking hall floor to one of Nigeria’s most impressive academic results.
Before her name appeared on any graduation list, Romoke spent time working as a cleaner at GTBank, a detail that gives her achievement an extraordinary dimension.
That chapter of her life stands in sharp contrast to where she has now arrived: among the top-performing Mathematics graduates in her institution.
Romoke awarded FBS Scholarship and MTN Scholarship
Her outstanding result also attracted financial recognition. She was awarded both the FBS Scholarship and the MTN Scholarship, which supported her through her studies. Academic excellence was only part of Romoke’s story at UNILORIN.
She co-founded The Emerging Mind Foundation, an organisation that equipped more than 250 students with technology skills while she was still studying for her own degree.
She also served as a Data Science Tutor, building the capacity of fellow learners in a fast-growing field.

Her work extended beyond Nigeria’s borders. Romoke participated as an Assistant Data Science Tutor at a CSA Africa Workshop held at the University of Nairobi in Kenya, gaining hands-on international exposure in data science education.
