Zimbabwean musician Jah Prayzah has postponed his wedding following the sudden death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke, in a helicopter crash in Marondera on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
In a joint statement shared on Instagram by the verified account @jahprayzah, Prayzah and his fiancée Rufaro Mukombe announced that the ceremony, which had been set for October 3, would not proceed as planned out of love, respect, and the need to grieve alongside family.
“Losing him together with Lucy in such a sudden way is a pain that is difficult to put into words,” the couple wrote.
“Out of love, respect and the need to grieve with family, our wedding which was scheduled for 3 October has been postponed. We will continue with our wedding plans when the time is right.”
Chivayo’s death in helicopter crash
Chivayo, his wife Lucy, and four other people died when their helicopter went down in Marondera on the evening of September 30, 2026. The crash claimed six lives in total, sending shockwaves across Zimbabwe and beyond.
The businessman was widely known for his flamboyant lifestyle and his close ties to prominent figures in Zimbabwean entertainment.
Chivayo and Prayzah shared a famously warm bond, with the tycoon frequently showering the musician with extravagant gifts and publicly expressing his admiration for him.
Prayzah described Chivayo as someone who had walked closely with him through many chapters of life, effectively treating him as a brother.
Wedding postponed as couple mourns
In their statement, Prayzah and Rufaro also extended their condolences to all families who lost loved ones in the tragedy, writing in both English and Shona:
“Our hearts and prayers are also with every family that lost a loved one in this tragedy. Mwari vape nyaradzo nesimba kune vose vari kuchema panguva ino.”
The decision to postpone the wedding has resonated deeply with Zimbabweans and followers across social media, with many touched by the couple’s choice to set aside a milestone celebration in honour of the people they lost. The statement was signed: “Mukudzeyi & Rufaro Mukombe,” using Prayzah’s given name.
No new date for the wedding has been announced.
