Jaguar showed up at ailing singer Marya’s home on October 15, arriving with a cash envelope and a string of promises that left many Kenyans talking.
The musician and former Starehe MP, whose real name is Charles Njagua, handed Marya KSh 100,000 in cash to help cover her medical bills and day-to-day expenses.
Beyond the cash, he pledged to pay her house rent for the next three months and to supply monthly household shopping as she continues fighting her way back to health.
Why did Jaguar step in to help Marya?
According to reports, the visit was inspired by a recent public moment involving Marya.
She had stepped back onto the stage to perform alongside her former music partner, Colonel Mustafa, during his 25-year music career celebration.
While the performance was a heartwarming sign of progress, Jaguar said it also made clear to him that she still required intensive physiotherapy and ongoing care.
Jaguar noted that he had previously offered Marya support when she first fell ill. Seeing her perform, however, reminded him that the road to full recovery is long, and that she would need consistent help to get there.
That realisation prompted him to visit her at home.
What condition is Marya recovering from?
Marya is recovering from an ischaemic stroke, a condition that has left her with partial paralysis on the left side of her body.
The illness has hit her hard multiple fronts, with mounting medical costs and the loss of income from cancelled performances placing serious strain on her finances.
She is currently undergoing physiotherapy as part of her treatment plan.
The singer built a loyal following through hits such as Chokoza, a collaboration with fellow artist Avril, and Hey Baby, recorded with Colonel Mustafa.
Her health struggles have drawn concern from fans and fellow artists across the Kenyan music scene.
Jaguar’s visit comes as a significant boost, with his pledges covering some of the most pressing needs Marya currently faces, from keeping a roof over her head to ensuring her household basics are taken care of as she focuses on getting better.
