Woman Sheds Tears as Husband Returns to UK Without Her Sends Divorce Letter on WhatsApp

A young woman named Alimat Abiola has shared a devastating account of how her husband of several years allegedly tricked her into travelling to Nigeria before abandoning her and their children there.

He then removed them from his UK visa and sent a divorce document through a disappearing WhatsApp message.

The woman explained that the family relocated to the UK in 2022, with her husband as the primary applicant on a student visa and herself and the children listed as dependants.

Because his visa limited him to 20 hours of paid work per week, the couple agreed that her earnings would help cover his tuition fees and household costs, an arrangement she honoured throughout his studies.

“I contributed towards paying his school fees, helped cover household expenses and took care of the family,” she said.

After he completed his programme and transitioned to a work visa, tensions began to surface. He grew increasingly critical of her commitment to her job, accusing her of neglecting the home.

Despite her contributions to groceries, electricity bills and childcare, she says he repeatedly told her she was ungrateful and reminded her that he was the one who had brought her to the UK.

The breaking point came when he proposed a trip to Nigeria, claiming their daughter needed to attend boarding school there for her Islamic upbringing.

He assured her their daughter would visit during school holidays. He later insisted the whole family travel together, arguing her presence would help the child settle in.

She eventually agreed, but while she and the children made a brief trip to visit her parents, her husband remained behind.

When she returned, she could not reach him. His number was switched off, and his messages went unanswered.

It was a boda boda rider who first told her that her husband had left the day before. When she checked his sister’s house, his bags were gone.

Two days later, she rang his workplace in the UK. They confirmed he had returned. The following morning, he sent her a string of WhatsApp messages declaring the marriage over.

Then came something far more alarming.

“It was a view-once document. I opened it, and what I saw left me in shock. It was a divorce letter stating that we were divorced and that both parties had agreed to it.”

The mother of two insists she never signed any such document. Before she could finish reading it, the message vanished.

She has since attempted to contact him about their passports, which remain in her possession, and to seek clarity on their immigration status. He blocked her without a word.

“He had left, removed me and the children from his visa, and sent me a divorce paper I knew nothing about,” she said.
