A young medical doctor who made history by qualifying at just 22 has embarked on another academic journey, years after completing his medical degree.
Dr Kwaku Boakye Gyamfi, who became Ghana’s youngest medical doctor, is now pursuing a Master’s in Public Health at Klintaps University College of Health and Allied Sciences.
The one-year programme is affiliated with the University of Cape Coast (UCC), where he previously studied medicine.
His latest academic move has attracted attention online, with social media users praising him for continuing to build his knowledge even after achieving a major milestone at a young age.
Young doctor made history at 22
Dr Gyamfi made headlines in 2023 when he successfully qualified as a medical doctor at the age of 22 after completing six years at the UCC medical school.
He had previously attended Prempeh College in Ghana’s Ashanti Region after successfully completing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), a secondary-school qualification used in several West African countries.
At his graduation ceremony in January 2024, he received another major academic honour. The University of Cape Coast’s School of Medical Sciences named him the Best Graduating Student in Surgery.
The university shared a photograph of the then-22-year-old receiving the award during its 56th congregation ceremony.
The university’s announcement stated:
“Dr Kwaku Boakye Gyamfi, aged 22, has been adjudged the Best Graduating Student in Surgery.”
