More than two years after the death of her husband, Bishop Allan Kiuna, Rev. Kathy Kiuna is still carrying the weight of grief.
On Monday, November 2, the Jubilee Christian Church (JCC) bishop shared a deeply personal message on social media that stopped many of her followers in their tracks.
What did Kathy say about her husband’s death?
“Sometimes it hurts so bad. I think losing a loved one is one of the most painful situations one can ever encounter,” she wrote, adding that while fighting through life’s struggles felt bearable because you face them together, death offers no such comfort.
“When they are gone, they are gone.”
She closed with a plea to her followers:
“Please treasure your loved ones and make great memories. Don’t take each other for granted. Selah.”
What happened to Bishop Allan Kiuna?
Bishop Allan, co-founder and General Overseer of JCC, passed away on July 9, 2024, at a private hospital in Nairobi.
His death came after a six-year battle with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow. Kathy was beside him when he took his final breath.
His illness had been a public journey. Diagnosed in 2018, he underwent chemotherapy that left him struggling to walk or stand due to severe leg pain.
Between 2022 and 2023, he travelled to the United States for specialised treatment, spending close to a year there.
Upon his return, he declared himself cancer-free at a JCC thanksgiving service, telling the congregation the treatment had cost over $3 million, a sum he said was provided without him touching his personal savings.
The celebrations were short-lived. His condition deteriorated in the months that followed, and he made fewer public appearances before his hospitalisation and eventual death.
He was laid to rest on July 17, 2024, at JCC Paradise in Kiambu County. Following his death, Kathy assumed leadership of JCC, a role she continues to hold.
