British former glamour model Elizabeth Hoad made international headlines in 2019 after holding a wedding ceremony with her six-year-old Golden Retriever, Logan, following years of disappointment in her search for love.
At the time, the 49-year-old appeared on the British daytime television programme This Morning, where she wore a traditional white wedding dress and veil as she walked down the aisle with her beloved pet.
Logan was also dressed for the occasion in a waistcoat and top hat, making the ceremony an unusual take on a traditional wedding. The lighthearted event was officiated by television presenter Alison Hammond, who jokingly pronounced Hoad and Logan “woman and dog”.
Why Elizabeth Hoad chose to marry her dog
Hoad’s decision followed what she described as a difficult experience with dating and relationships. Before the televised ceremony, she revealed that she had been on 221 unsuccessful dates and had experienced four broken engagements.
She also spoke about encounters with men who had been unfaithful or concealed that they were already married. After years of disappointment, Hoad said she had given up on finding a human partner and instead wanted to celebrate the bond she shared with Logan.
The former model described the dog as an important part of her life, explaining that he had helped her through loneliness and emotional difficulties. Logan was also a rescue dog who had experienced abuse before finding a home with Hoad.

A wedding with unusual vows
The ceremony included wedding-inspired vows adapted to their relationship. Hoad promised to take Logan for daily walks and share treats with him, highlighting the affection and companionship she associated with her pet.
Although the event attracted international attention, it was a symbolic celebration rather than a legally recognised marriage. Under UK law, marriage is a legal union between people, meaning Hoad and Logan could not become legally married.
Who is Elizabeth Hoad?
Before becoming known for the unusual ceremony, Hoad had worked as a glamour and Page 3 model during the 1980s. Her appearance on This Morning brought renewed attention to her personal life and the relationship she shared with her dog.
The ceremony became a talking point because it challenged conventional ideas about weddings and the different ways people celebrate companionship.
For Hoad, however, the occasion was less about making a statement and more about recognising the bond she shared with an animal she considered a source of comfort and loyalty.
