‎Peninah Wangari, a woman from Nyahururu, spent four years working as a househelp in Saudi Arabia with one goal in mind: to give her mother a decent place to live.

‎Her mother had no stable home, and Peninah resolved to change that even if it meant leaving her family and enduring years of hard labour abroad.

‎She saved whatever little she could from her wages and gradually put up a stone house back in Kenya.

‎Peninah moves to Oman

‎After completing her stint in Saudi Arabia, Peninah moved to Oman, where she continued working as a domestic worker. It was there that her child fell ill.

‎Distressed and desperate to be with her family, she abandoned her work contract and returned to Kenya.

‎The money she had carefully set aside to finish the house went instead towards hospital bills.

‎Peninah’s son dies

‎Through the support of Ev Mercy Nungari’s page and a Kenyan woman working in Oman who helped facilitate her return, Peninah was able to come home and be with her child in his final days.

‎When content creator Paxson Chege visited the family home in Nyahururu on November 4, 2026, the visit painted a picture of both remarkable sacrifice and heartbreaking incompletion.

‎No doors, windows in Peninah’s mum’s house

‎The stone structure Peninah built stands tall and solid, a testament to years of discipline and determination. But it remains unfinished.

‎There are no doors, no windows and no iron sheets for the roof.

‎What struck Paxson’s crew was that Peninah had already purchased doors, tiles and other finishing materials, all sitting unused.

‎Peninah seeks to travel back to Gulf

‎She simply does not have enough money to hire a fundi to carry out the installation work.

‎Peninah is now appealing to Kenyans and well-wishers to help her renew her passport so she can travel back to the Gulf, secure another job and resume supporting her mother.
