The Kisumu City Department has raised alarm over increased infestations of rats, bedbugs, and mosquitos in the city’s hotels, lodgings, guest houses, and even residential houses.
Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga on Monday issued a 14-day ultimatum to such outlets to control the insects and rodents, failing which legal action will be taken against them.
Wanga says such outlets are operating under unsanitary conditions, contrary to the Public Health Act, cap 242.
He says the city department of public health had conducted rapid assessments that showed the high level of infestation.
He says the owners of such premises must move with speed and carry out fumigation and indoor spraying using approved public health insecticides.
In the notice Wanga further directed that the rodents be exterminated using approved public health poisons so as not to put human life in danger.
