Artist Dennis Kagia Waweru, who many know as DNA, has for the first time talked about how the life of a musician affected him during his heyday.

In a podcast, DNA opened up about how alcoholism affected him and nearly ruined his career, and how he pulled himself together after the crash.

Kagia said that in his life, he found himself in rehabilitation centers three times where those who loved him took him there to try to save him from the addiction.

“I had a very difficult beginning in my life. I can say that I started my life anew after realizing that many things I was doing were not bringing productivity in my life.

We used to wake up early in the morning drunk, maybe I wake up at five o’clock and I see that I have been called severally by the producer.”

Adding,

“To be honest, I have been in a rehab facility three times. It’s not a sad story for me and I don’t see any stigmatization on my part. I’m talking about it because I feel people are suffering from problems that can be solved,” DNA said.

The artist with hits like ‘Banjuka Tu’, ‘Masawali Mengi’ and others revealed that apart from singing, many do not know that he was a music producer, a designer of platforms to distribute artists’ work and many other things that he did during that period.

“When I started producing music, the first artist I produced was the late Chris Kantai and I produced many others that I helped write,” DNA said.

“I was also the one who produced Fimbo Chapa when I went to Grandpa Records, along with Kidis and others. Wherever you see me, there is good fruit.”

The artist said that the difficulty of earning money when they were singing made them struggle a lot.
