Police in Thika are currently holding nine Nigerian nationals who were arrested in possession of crude weapons at Kang’oki dumpsite in Makongeni, Thika West Sub-County.
The nine were nabbed earlier this week after a brawl ensued between them and Kang’oki residents who ply their trade at the main Kiambu County dump site.
The commotion attracted the attention of law enforcement agents who quickly made their way to the scene and rescued the nine from the residents who were baying for their blood.
According to Thika Police Commander, Daniel Kinyua, none of the Nigerian nationals could provide documentation to show that they were in the country legally.
“They are all giving contradicting information on why they are here. They were armed with knives and a small axe and we didn’t take that lightly,” Kinyua said.
Eight of the suspects are being held at Makongeni police station as detectives continue investigations ahead of presenting them to court.
“One of them says he comes from Ruiru, another from Embu but some residents told us they have rented a house around Makongeni,” the police boss added.
One of the suspects is nursing injuries at Thika Level V hospital which he sustained during the aforementioned scrap with Kang’oki residents.
