The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the murder of two men who were shot dead on Sunday in Murang’a.

In a statement from chairperson Anne Makori on Monday, IPOA said a team has already been dispatched to the region and has since established that police officers were part of the incident.

Makori added that the appropriate action shall be taken upon conclusion of the investigations.

This comes amid an array of questions from the public after the death of the two was atypically reported by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

DCI, in the story, reported that the suspects were gunned down after a “fierce shootout with police officers” in Kigumo area, Murang’a county on Sunday morning.

The report was however flagged for scrutiny on social media after speculation boiled up that police officers had earlier arrested the duo.

In DCI’s report on Twitter, two images showed the legs of the two suspected gangsters, one with camel brown shoes and black trousers while the other one had black socks with beige trousers.

The post was in no time deleted and another with images of two rifles, 18 rounds of ammunition and a wad of cash wrapped in rubber bands published online.

A tweep then commented with an image of two men, whose attires perfectly fit the images seen in the DCI post, questioning how they ended up dead yet they were in police custody.

An explanation of how the two ended up in a shootout yet they were seen handcuffed was then demanded, with many protesting that the story does not add up.
