The Tanzanian health ministry is on high alert following the emergence of a ‘mysterious’ disease that has so far reportedly claimed the lives of five people in Bukoba district.
The ministry, according to a report by the Tanzanian publication ‘The Citizen’, has recorded another group of about 7 people said to also have contracted the disease.
The seven have since exhibited various symptoms including; fever, vomiting, bleeding, and liver failure, with the government dispatching a rapid response team to the affected areas.
“It is believed that the disease is infectious. Samples from the dead bodies have been taken to determine what type of disease it is,” the publication reported.
The Tanzanian government has hence issued a notice, urging members of the public to present themselves to health centres or alert authorities if they show such signs as nausea, weakness, bleeding, diarrhea, or fever.
