A family in Kapuothe village in Nyalenda slums, Kisumu County, is in mourning after a two-year-old boy died after slipping inside an open electric pole hole.
The incident that occurred on Thursday evening has left the minor’s mother, who was away at the time, in pain and shock.
Margaret Omondi, who is a community leader, said the young one was left in the company of his grandmother since the mother had left for the market.
Ms Omondi said the granny noticed after a while that her grandson was missing, only to find his body inside the hole near their homestead.
She stated that the holes were dug by a Kenya power contractor and have since been left dangerously open for several months now.
She said they have made constant appeals to Kenya Power to plug electricity poles in the holes since they had become death traps to humans and even livestock.
Police have since visited the scene and taken away the boy’s body to the morgue as they kick off investigations.
