Makueni: Irate residents arrest r@pe suspect

An irate mob in Mbooni, Makueni County, on Wednesday, May 24 apprehended a 36-year-old man who allegedly r@ped a woman.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, Munyao Muoka, 36, was handed over to police by the irate mob that almost lynched him after he was cornered trying to flee after the woman raised an alarm.

“According to the victim, she was headed home at around 10:30 pm from the market where she plies her trade when the man who demanded money from her accosted her.

“When she became hesitant, the man placed a knife on her neck and snatched her day’s sales of Sh200,” the report said.
Suspect set to be arraigned

Police said the victim stated that the suspect covered her mouth with a leso that she was carrying before raping her.

“After the ordeal, the victim rushed towards Mukelenzu market where she raised alarm prompting the angry members of the public to go after the suspect with furry.

“Police officers based at Kalawa police station immediately rushed to the scene, arrested the suspect, and escorted him and the victim to Kalawa Sub-county hospital for necessary medical tests and treatment,” the report added.

Police said the kitchen knife that the suspect had used to scare the victim was later recovered at the scene of the crime and kept as an exhibit.
