A Ugandan police officer was on Monday shot dead pursuing three robbers said to have attacked a soda depot that also housed a mobile money agent shop in the central Mubende district.

Police said the robbers made their way into the shop a few minutes before 6 p.m. and stole various items of unidentified value before fleeing on a motorcycle.

Officers upon receiving the information began pursuing the suspects, during which the corporal was shot.

“(He) unfortunately succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital,” read a police report issued Tuesday.

The suspects also took the officer’s magazine but left the firearm behind. Police recovered a motorcycle belonging to the suspects.
