Two women from Matungulu, Machakos County have been slapped with a Ksh.1.5 million fine by a Kangundo court in a defamation case.

Lydia Mbondo and Juliana Musyoka from Katine sub-location were found guilty of defaming Joseph Kioko by spreading defamatory words that he had defiled and impregnated a minor on diverse dates in December 2016.

According to Kioko, a married father of three, the defamation was done through talking and a section of media where he was caused humiliation, ridicule, contempt and lowered his self-esteem.

In her ruling, Principal Magistrate Martha Opanga said the court had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Kioko was not involved in the defilement accusations.

This was done through DNA tests conducted by two separate institutions after the girl gave birth.

The two women were ordered to pay the sum as general and exemplary damages.
