Tragedy struck Salama and Juhudi villages, Lamu, on Tuesday night after militia believed to be from al-Shabaab group attacked a camp and torched houses, killing one person.
The militia targeted a temporary camp at Juhudi Primary School at approximately 3 am. The camp was home to more than 500 individuals who had sought shelter following an earlier attack on their village two weeks ago.
Eyewitnesses claim that, national police reservists and other security personnel deployed in the area fought the attackers for over 30 minutes, forcing the militia to retreat.
The incident marks the second attack in less than three weeks, with Salama village being targeted previously.
During that attack, 11 houses were set ablaze, and five men, including a promising third-year high school student who had returned home for a midterm break, lost their lives.
