The high fuel prices will continue to impact the cost of living. In its new monthly review, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has revealed the revised prices of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene, which will have repercussions across various sectors in the country.
From July 15, 2023, to August 14, 2023, EPRA has made the following adjustments: Super Petrol and Kerosene prices decreased by Sh0.85 and Sh3.96 per litre, respectively, while Diesel remained unchanged.
As a result, petrol in Nairobi will retail at Sh194.68 from Sh195.54, while diesel and kerosene will retail at Sh179.67 and Sh169.48, respectively, down from Sh173.44.
“In accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022, EPRA has calculated the maximum retail prices of petroleum products which will be in force from 15th July 2023 to 14th August 2023,” EPRA stated in a press release.
“In consideration of the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super Petrol & Kerosene decrease by Kshs. 0.85 & Kshs. 3.96 per liter, respectively, while Diesel remains unchanged.”
In its previous review on June 30, 2023, EPRA disregarded the High Court’s ruling to suspend the implementation of Finance Act 2023, which proposed doubling petroleum prices, and announced the new fuel prices.
However, in the latest EPRA review, Super Petrol rose by Sh13.49 per litre, Diesel by Sh12.39 per litre, and Kerosene by Sh11.96 per litre, leading to petrol prices in Nairobi rising to Sh195.53 from Sh182.04, diesel to Sh179.67 from Sh167.28, and kerosene to Sh173.44 from Sh161.48 per litre, respectively.
President William Ruto has pleaded with the court to allow the implementation of the Finance Act 2023.
