A 14-year-old boy was on Saturday found dead at his home in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, in what is suspected to have been death by suicide.
According to Mirichi assistant Chief Alfred Mithamo who confirmed the incident, the boy was a grade 5 pupil.
“ I was informed by residents about him after a member of his family raised an alarm following the shocking incident,” Mithamo said.
The administrator said he was shocked to see the young boy hanging with rope on his neck as he wondered why a minor would commit suicide.
Family members said the boy was very happy on Saturday morning but his kin were later shocked to find him dangling from the roof of their house.
“He was very happy after taking tea this morning…little did I know he would commit suicide,” Karimi said.
Mburi residents described the boy as a disciplined, jovial boy saying: “We fetched water with him today morning but I was shocked to hear he is no more,” Judy Muthoni, a villager said.
The administrator and area residents have consequently expressed concern over the high number of suicide cases being reported as they urged the local churches to intervene.
The body of the deceased has since been taken to Kibugi Funeral Home Kutus awaiting postmortem as police also launched a probe into the matter.
