Detectives on Saturday stormed into the home of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and declared it a crime scene following the gruesome murder of blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.
This comes a day after the governor’s son Timothy Kinoti alias Timo and her brother Murangiri Kenneth were arrested alongside three others over their involvement in the blogger’s death. The five were booked across various police stations within Nairobi and Kiambu.
Efforts to reach out for further details were rendered futile after the detectives refused to address the media, however, reliable sources confirmed that more family members were being arrested.
Yesterday, the DCI officer in charge of investigations regarding the blogger’s death told the Kiambu Magistrates Court that Mwangaza’s son and brother lured the deceased to his death.
He specifically told the court that the two contacted the blogger, a staunch critic of Mwangaza, informing him that he would be meeting the governor to make amends and work together.
The slain blogger agreed to meet them and travelled from his home within Igembe South Sub-County to Meru town. He went missing afterwards.
“Hyrene Kawira Kamenchu, the deceased’s wife tried to contact him in vain prompting her to report the matter at Maua Police Station,” the officer added.
Further, the officer requested the court to allow detectives to detain the suspects for 21 days to pave way for investigations.
“The respondents (accused) have to undergo formal police procedures which include but are not limited to recording statements, interrogation, and subjecting them to mental assessment among other actions,” the DCI added.
