Police in Vihiga County are holding a 70-year-old man in custody for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl.
Hamisi sub-county Police Commander Patrick Gogo confirmed the incident saying the minor was a Grade 3 pupil.
The administrator condemned the incident noting that cases of defilement and incest have been on the rise in the area in recent times.
He said the suspect is in police custody awaiting arraignment.
Following the incident, civil rights groups, the church and members of the public have since come out to condemn the hideous act.
