Over fifteen families have been rendered homeless in the Bongo area of  Nyandarua following heavy rains on Monday.

The heavy rains, punctuated by equally heavy winds, uprooted at least 5 trees, which then fell on residential homes, destroying at least 15 houses according to witnesses.

The rains also wreaked havoc on crops, with the area MCA reporting that a cow was killed by a falling tree during the incident.

“We are very shocked at the damage that the heavy rains have caused here,” Nyakio Ward MCA Zack Njeru told the media on Monday.

“One woman’s house was completely destroyed by the rains, and we do not know what to do now that she is homeless.”

The MCA urged well-wishers to help those who had been rendered homeless as soon as possible, as they could be facing long, cold nights in the open.
