Environment and Climate Change PS Festus Ngeno has urged youth and children to take part in upcoming sixth United Environment Assembly (UNEA6) meeting.

The PS highlighted on the importance of children participation and urged their representatives to work closely with the government in addressing environment concerns.

“I urge the representatives of the children to organise them in an amalgamation for ease of engagement with the government and to allow them to participate in government-led meetings,”Ngeno said.

He made the remarks on Wednesday after holding a meeting with different stakeholders from the Global Steering Committee of The Children and Youth Major Group to UNEP ahead of the UNEA6 meeting.

The meeting discussed the pivotal role youth play in shaping the global environmental agenda.

The PS went on to outline the ministry’s efforts to incorporate youth issues in government work.

“Youth issues have been mainstreamed in the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP), with a whole chapter dedicated to their issues. Additionally the Climate Change Council has representation from the youth,” Ngeno said.

The UNEA6 meeting is scheduled to take place in Nairobi from February 26, 2024 to March 1, 2024 at the UNEP headquarters in Gigiri.
