Moses Koskei, the Kirinyaga West sub-county police commander, said that the chief was taken into custody following a statement filed by the girl’s family at Baricho police station.
Allegedly, the chief stands accused of sexually assaulting the young girl, who is a junior secondary school student at a local institution, and impregnating her before coercing her into terminating the pregnancy.
Koskei confirmed that the chief is currently detained at Baricho police station as investigations proceed.
Family members revealed that they had been searching for the missing girl since last Friday before finally reporting her disappearance today.
They expressed regret over not being able to report the incident sooner due to the girl’s absence.
Jane Njeri, the Kirinyaga Woman Representative, disclosed that, upon being informed of the situation, her office promptly facilitated the official report.
She further stated her collaboration with victim protection agencies and FIDA to ensure the girl’s welfare and pursue legal action.
Njeri lamented the apparent recurrence of such incidents, indicating a pattern of abuse that must be addressed.
The County MP emphasised the necessity for parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and promptly report any instances of sexual abuse to the authorities for swift justice.
She urged the community to remain vigilant against predators who exploit their positions of trust for nefarious purposes.
