Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode says that the police have a duty to keep law and order but not to frustrate members of the public in the name of enforcing the law.
He adds that there is a clear procedure of investigating to find and arrest the exact person or people who murdered the police officer instead of subjecting everybody on sight to persistent torture.
Okode reiterates that the government has the capacity of establishing the culprits behind the killing of that officer without necessarily subjecting the residents to torture, arguing that it is quite unfortunate that the residents can longer go about their day to day businesses.
The Siaya County Assembly Speaker stated that the police can alternatively embrace dialogue in finding those responsible for the killing instead of torturing people left and right.
Similar concerns have been raised by the Vice Chairman of the Luo Council of elders Mzee James Ayaga who says that an amicable solution should be sought into the matter.
He called for the intervention of Rarieda Deputy County Commissioner to save the residents from the persistent torture that has completely paralyzed business operations in the sub-county.
