Police in Kirinyaga have arrested a 30-year-old man who hacked his 56-year-old mother to death on Thursday night following a disagreement over coffee crops cultivated on a parcel of land.
Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police Commander Moses Koskei noted that the suspect, Murimi Maina, was apprehended in Kagumo, Kirinyaga Central Constituency, as he attempted to sell his phone in order to raise transport fare to facilitate his escape from the county.
“He is currently being held at Baricho Police Station,” said Koskei.
Maina, a butcher by trade, descended on his mother, Jane Nyambura Maina, after she allegedly destroyed 20 coffee plants that he had cultivated on her land.
He reportedly warned his mother of severe consequences following her actions, before hacking her to death with a machete.
He later fled the scene of crime after carrying out the brutal attack.
