Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said that the government has allocated money for the construction of urban roads and the refurbishing of Matulo Airstrip in Bungoma town ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations in June.
Speaking in Bungoma town after a consultative meeting with a section of leaders from the region Murkomen said that the development was part of the construction of more than 600 km of roads in the County.
The CS said the roads will be completed before the celebrations in June, to provide smooth operations during the fete.
“Our priority is to ensure that people can access the stadium, state lodge, parking areas, the airport… Hosts take advantage of the opportunity to resolve other problems in towns. There are measures in place to resolve infrastructure problems in Bungoma,” Murkomen stated.
He added that the Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA), and Kenya Urban Roads (KURA) are on course to open up the region and connect it with neighbouring counties.
On his part, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula hailed President William Ruto for chosing Bungoma as the host for the event.
“We want Bungoma to feel as part of Kenya Kwanza’s success,” Wetangula said.
