On Wednesday, 15 Kenya Rifles troops engaged in a Key Leadership meeting with elders from Ruqa village to strategize on combating Al Shabaab in Garissa County.
Officer Commanding (OC) Major Vincent Ngole highlighted the importance of establishing a communication mast to improve information sharing and communication, particularly with security agencies concerning Al Shabaab activities.
This initiative aims to enhance coordination and response efforts in addressing security challenges posed by the extremist group in the region.
“I request you to continue working and to sensitize the locals in this area to put more effort into our common fight against the threat of Al Shabaab.” Ngole highlighted.
The elders conveyed their appreciation to the KDF personnel for hosting them and acknowledged the efforts made by the KDF to secure the area and combat Al Shabaab.
They noted a significant improvement in the region’s security since the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and expressed optimism that the area would soon be completely free from Al Shabaab activities.
Representing the elders, Ali Abdi Mohammed emphasized the necessity of enhancing communication infrastructure in the area. He specifically requested the establishment of a communication mast to facilitate improved information sharing, recognizing its importance in further enhancing security measures and coordination efforts.
“This region has poor network coverage, making it difficult to quickly share information, particularly with security agencies when there are Al Shabaab activities in the area,” Mohammed said.
