The tragic incident unfolded in Omogwa village, Kemera location, in Nyamira county, where a young man, Wesley Ondieki, fatally stabbed his mother over a dispute regarding Ksh 500.
Ondieki’s mother refused to give him money she had received from mourners who had come to pay their respects following the death of his father. In a violent outburst, Ondieki not only stabbed his mother to death but also attacked his sister, leaving her seriously injured, before fleeing the scene.
Subsequently, angered villagers apprehended Ondieki and subjected him to mob justice, beating him to death and lynching his body. The mother’s body was transported to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, while the charred remains of the son were taken to Tombe Hospital morgue.
Authorities, including the Kemera area chief, condemned the violent incident, urging youth to abstain from drugs and discouraging mob justice. Instead, they emphasized the importance of handing suspects over to the police for proper legal procedures.
