Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s season review has concluded that Erik Ten Hag deserves to stay on as Manchester United’s manager, following a record of two trophies in two seasons. This endorsement comes despite the club’s dismal performance in the English Premier League, where they finished 8th with 60 points, the lowest in the club’s history.

Ten Hag has shown remarkable progress in developing young talents like Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. His professionalism and dignity have also been highlighted as key reasons for allowing him to start negotiations over a new contract. Ten Hag’s current contract is set to end at the end of next season, but the club has the option to extend it for an additional 12 months.

Throughout the season, Ten Hag managed to lead the team despite an injury-ravaged squad. Notably, he secured Europa League qualification with a victory over Manchester City at Wembley. This achievement has contributed to quelling speculations about his future, which intensified due to the team’s poor league performance.

The possibility of Ten Hag’s departure had previously linked various managers to the United job, including Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna, and Gareth Southgate. However, Ratcliffe’s backing suggests stability in the managerial position.

Manchester United also acknowledges that new signings, such as Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana, need time to settle in. Additionally, Mason Mount’s contribution was limited last season due to injury, which impacted the overall performance of the team. Despite these challenges, the club remains optimistic about the future under Ten Hag’s leadership.
