Kenyans have rallied to raise about Sh3 million for the late Mary Njambi, also known as Jahmby Koikai or Fyah Mummah, ahead of her burial on Friday, June 14.

The total amount needed to cover her hospital bills and funeral arrangements is about Sh5 million.

Njambi died at Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with endometriosis.

In a live Instagram session, comedian Timothy Kimani, also known as Njugush, gave an update on the fundraising efforts.

“You guys are amazing. This is just an update on what is happening online. I want to thank you for your support. We are from the meeting and we want to tell you that we needed to raise about 5 million. There was an outstanding hospital bill. It is only fair that we support the mother to pay the bill and the funeral. Thank you for your support. We are more than halfway and we know we will finish this journey together,” said Njugush.

Njugush also urged Kenyans and Njambi’s friends to continue contributing to the fundraising effort, highlighting the community’s collective efforts to honour her memory and support her family at this difficult time.

On Tuesday, June 11, family, friends and members of the creative community gathered to mourn the passing of the reggae MC and media personality.

The vigil was held in her honour at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.

The event was attended by notable personalities such as Sports CS Ababu Namwamba, actress Jacky Vike (popularly known as Awinja), Talia Oyando, Shix Kapienga among others.

Namwamba paid tribute to Njambi, describing her as a beloved figure in the entertainment industry and a dedicated human rights activist.

“Njambi was a beacon of hope and justice who worked tirelessly for fairness in our society. Her commitment to justice and equality is a passion that we shared,” Namwamba said.

Vigils have been held every night since Monday from 5 pm to 8 pm, allowing family and friends to come together in a space of remembrance and comfort.

On Wednesday, June 12, Njambi’s friends and fans will be holding a reggae concert in her honour at the Quiver Club.

Admission to the event was Sh500 and all proceeds will go towards helping Njambi’s family pay for her hospital bills and funeral arrangements.
