The Kenya Kwanza Government has decided to abandon several contentious tax proposals following widespread public opposition.

President William Ruto made this announcement after hosting a parliamentary group meeting at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday.

The decision came after a public participation exercise, where Kenyans expressed their objections to these proposals. Kuria Kimani, the National Assembly Finance Committee Chair, emphasized the significance of this public feedback, stating that it wasn’t an exercise in futility.

Some of the dropped proposals include taxes on bread, motor vehicles, and eco-tax. However, the tax on mobile service transfers remains at 15%, as it was previously. Additionally, the government has scrapped the proposed tax on locally manufactured diapers and sanitary pads.
