Public health officials in Kitengela, Kajiado County, have arrested 12 individuals in a crackdown on homeowners illegally disposing of raw sewage, amid concerns about a potential cholera outbreak in the area. During the operation, officials seized eight water pumping machines used for the improper disposal of effluent. Force was used to apprehend some homeowners who did not comply.

Residents have been enduring this hazardous practice for several months, which poses a serious health threat. Sewage now flows through areas with food and vegetable stalls, as well as private residences, intensifying foul odors in many streets.

Tenants of four raided houses have been given 14 days to vacate the premises in compliance with public health laws. The Department of Public Health and Sanitation has warned officials allegedly colluding with homeowners to dispose of sewage illegally, stating they will face legal consequences.
