The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied allegations of abducting former MP Alfred Keter, clarifying that he was arrested on Sunday, June 30. According to the DCI, Keter was apprehended for charges related to conspiracy to traffic firearms and incitement to violence.
He was taken into custody and booked at Kamukunji Police Station, subsequently being released pending forensic analysis of exhibits.
The DCI further stated that once the forensic analysis is completed, the case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for further action. The National Police Service has urged the public to refrain from violence, hate speech, and malicious actions to maintain peace and security in the country.
Keter’s arrest occurred while he was with his family in a Land Cruiser V8 on Nyeri Road in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area. The DCI clarified that ununiformed police officers were responsible for his apprehension, amid public outcry over the incident. Following his release, Keter voiced his belief that the government targeted him due to his outspoken opposition to the contentious Finance Bill 2024, urging against intimidation tactics to silence dissenting voices.
