Young adults from Gen Z and Millennials have gathered in large numbers at Uhuru Park for a memorial concert honoring protesters who lost their lives during recent anti-Finance Bill demonstrations over the past two weeks. July 7, known as Saba Saba, holds significance in Kenya’s struggle for its second liberation, and this event serves as a reflection on the country’s history.

The Shujaaz Memorial Concert has attracted participants beyond these generations who are committed to supporting the cause. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who authorized the use of Uhuru Park for the memorial, has confirmed his attendance. The gates to the venue opened under tight security at 9 am.

Organized by activist Boniface Mwangi and his team, the concert was slated to begin at noon and conclude by 7 pm, although it commenced a few minutes before 3 pm with the singing of the National Anthem. Several artists are scheduled to perform during the event.
