Police are investigating the deaths of an elderly couple in Lari, Limuru, Kiambu County, following a fire that destroyed their three-roomed house. The bodies of Peter Kimani Kuria, 75, and Miriam Muthoni, 65, were discovered after the fire had flattened their home on the night of Monday, July 22.
Locals in Lare village reported the blaze, which completely consumed the house. The couple’s remains were burnt beyond recognition. Authorities are exploring the possibility of arson and are also considering if the fire may have been caused by the couple using a jiko (charcoal stove) to warm themselves.
The bodies have been taken to the mortuary for autopsy and further investigation. Kiambu police boss Michael Muchiri stated that experts are investigating the cause of the fire.
In Nairobi’s Lungalunga slums, Anthony Gicheru, 34, was found dead on his bed. His wife reported that she could not wake him the following morning after they had gone to bed the night before. Police noted that there were no visible injuries on his body, which has been moved to the mortuary for autopsy and investigation.
In Manyatta, Embu County, a man is in custody after fatally stabbing another individual during a dispute over an unspecified amount of money. The incident occurred at Kirigi Market on Tuesday morning.
Santon Murimi Munene, 28, was stabbed in the neck by an assailant known to him. A witness reported that the altercation escalated when the assailant brandished a knife. Munene died at the scene. Police found a mob that had restrained the assailant, who has also been taken into custody. The body has been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.
There is growing concern over the increase in murder cases, with calls for parties involved in disputes to resolve their differences peacefully.
