Two activists in Homa Bay County have taken legal action to suspend the ongoing construction of new county headquarters. The activists, Evans Oloo Gor and Michael Kojo, have sued Governor Gladys Wanga’s administration, accusing it of failing to seek public opinion before deciding to develop new county headquarters at Arujo.
This location is where former Governor Cyprian Awiti constructed a Ksh.500 million Arujo animal feeds project.
The activists also allege that the county government broke the law by not obtaining approval from the County Assembly before entering into an agreement with the County Pension Fund (CPF), which is supporting the construction. The agreement with CPF was made in May 2024.
Kojo and Oloo claim that the county government has not provided evidence that it complied with all the necessary requirements for the project’s success. They have requested the court to halt the construction process and issue a temporary injunction prohibiting the respondents or any person acting under their authority from conducting any business at the site.
Justice George Ong’ondo of the Lands and Environment Court has scheduled a hearing for October 7, where the petitioners will present their case for stopping the project, and the county government will argue for the continuation of the construction.
