In Kisii on Friday, a dramatic scene unfolded when elderly parents demolished their child’s house amid a long-standing land dispute that has deeply divided the family.
The incident, which took place in Kiamachongo village, Bobasi sub-county, involved Arati Momanyi and his wife tearing down a mud house after their son allegedly threatened them with death and accused them of witchcraft.
Chief Dickson Omaywa reported that the land boundary disputes between Mzee Momanyi and his sons have led to ongoing insecurity in both the homestead and the village. The son whose house was destroyed fled the homestead and could not be reached for comment.
Mzee Momanyi claimed that three of his sons have turned against him, seeking to kill him to inherit his land, while the remaining two sons support him.
“I’m asking the government, is this really okay? Again, when one gets old does it mean they become a witch? Why have they turned against me and their mother? Why do they want to chase me away from my land?” Momanyi questioned.
