Ukrainian forces reported successfully intercepting a Russian missile attack on Kyiv early Sunday morning, as air raid sirens echoed across the capital before dawn.

“This is the third ballistic missile attack on the capital in August, with a clear pattern of six days between each assault,” the Kyiv City Military Administration announced on Telegram following the early morning strike.

Alongside the missile attack, drones were spotted heading toward Kyiv. “All enemy drones were destroyed far outside the city,” the administration added.

No damage or casualties were reported from the attack, which the administration suggested likely involved North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles.

The United States and South Korea have accused North Korea of supplying Russia with ammunition and missiles for its war in Ukraine. Kyiv has consistently urged its Western allies to provide more air-defense systems.

Last weekend, a 35-year-old man and his four-year-old son were killed in an overnight Russian missile strike near Kyiv, with three others seriously injured.

Concerns have intensified after Moscow vowed a “tough response” to Ukraine’s recent advance into Russian territory.

Two and a half years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Kyiv’s forces launched a significant counter-offensive into the Kursk region last week, causing more than 120,000 people to flee. Ukraine claims to have captured over 1,100 square kilometers of Russian territory in the largest foreign military assault on Russian soil since World War II.

On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that his forces were reinforcing their positions in the Russian region of Kursk, with the operation “proceeding exactly as we expected.”

Meanwhile, Russian air defenses destroyed five Ukrainian drones in the Belgorod, Kursk, and Rostov regions on Saturday night, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
