Wakulima market traders have received a reprieve after the High Court issued an order halting their planned eviction.
Milimani High Court judge Bahati Mwamuye granted an injunction suspending the notice from Nairobi City County, which required the traders to relocate to Kangundo Road market.
“Pending the inter partes hearing and determination of this application, an order is hereby issued restraining the county from evicting the traders operating within or in the vicinity of Wakulima Market, Nairobi, or interfering with their business operations in those areas,” Justice Mwamuye stated.
The judge also directed that the traders and the county hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the matter further and report back to the court.
These orders were issued following a case filed by the Wakulima Market Traders Association. The County Secretary had issued a notice on September 10 demanding the immediate relocation of the traders.
