President William Ruto has emphasized the importance of a multi-sectoral approach to effectively tackle the region’s pressing health challenges, particularly in reducing maternal mortality. He made these remarks during a high-level event at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Ruto highlighted Kenya’s innovative model of deploying Community Health Promoters (CHPs) who provide essential medical services directly to local communities.
“In Kenya, we have deployed Community Health Promoters to deliver crucial medical care directly to the grassroots, ensuring the well-being of women, children, and other vulnerable groups for a sustainable future,” Ruto stated. This approach aims to significantly lower mortality rates among these groups.
The event was hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and focused on the critical global objective of securing the health and well-being of every woman, child, and adolescent. Among those present were Liberia’s President Joseph Boakai and Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.
