Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has advocated for a one-year extension of the Haiti Mission, emphasizing that this extension is crucial for achieving the mission’s objectives. Speaking at the Ministerial Meeting on Building on Progress to Restore Security in Haiti, he commended the efforts of the 410 dedicated officers currently deployed in the MSS Mission.

Mudavadi stated, “Their actions have exemplified that this is indeed a Mission Possible, conducted with the highest standards of transparency and integrity.”

He highlighted that within its first 100 days, the mission, in collaboration with the Haiti National Police (HNP), has made significant progress in securing vital infrastructure, including the international airport, the national hospital, and the main seaport in Port-au-Prince.

According to him, these initiatives have greatly contributed to enhancing public safety and stability in the region.

He noted that joint patrols with the HNP in critical areas of Port-au-Prince, particularly downtown, have strengthened civilian protection. Additionally, he pointed out that the mission has been instrumental in clearing roadblocks and facilitating access routes, which has improved the flow of humanitarian aid to those in need.

Mudavadi stressed that with only 410 officers currently deployed out of a planned 2,500, the mission’s effectiveness is limited. “I call on the Security Council to consider extending the Mission for another year, enabling the full deployment necessary to accomplish its mandate,” he urged.

He also encouraged the Security Council to explore innovative approaches for the United Nations to provide the essential resources needed to sustain and build upon the progress achieved by the MSS.
