Iran has formulated a comprehensive plan to respond to a potential Israeli attack, as reported by local media on Sunday. According to the Tasnim news agency, an informed source from the Iranian armed forces stated that “the plan for the necessary response to a possible action by the Zionists (Israel) has been fully prepared.”
This statement follows the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launching around 200 missiles at Israel in retaliation for the killing of leaders from groups allied to Tehran. The report emphasized that if Israel were to take any action, Iran would undoubtedly retaliate, asserting that Iran has identified multiple Israeli targets and can “level to the ground any place it desires.”
The missile strike on Tuesday marked Iran’s second direct attack on Israel and was in response to an Israeli air raid that killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and IRGC general Abbas Nilforoushan in Beirut, as well as the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, an act widely attributed to Israel.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that if Israel were to strike again, Iran’s response would be “proportional and similar,” and possibly even stronger. On Saturday, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad inspected a significant oil facility in the Gulf amid rising fears of possible Israeli attacks on Iran’s oil infrastructure. In a related note, U.S. President Joe Biden advised Israel against targeting oil sites in Iran, given its status as one of the world’s largest oil producers.
