Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has requested prayers from Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, expressing the challenges she has faced since her dismissal from her position. Speaking on Saturday, Nakhumicha shared that adjusting to life after her tenure has been difficult.

“It’s not easy having been a minister, and then all of a sudden you are just Nakhumicha. And you know my name is unique; when you say Nakhumicha, people see the woman from the Health Ministry. Please continue to pray for me; I see that God has given me good things, and I also expect good things,” she said.

Nakhumicha made these remarks during the funeral service for Rodah Lusaka, the mother of Bungoma Governor Ken Makelo Lusaka. She was dismissed alongside half of President William Ruto’s Cabinet on July 11, 2024, after serving for nearly two years. While some ministers were reappointed to different ministries, Nakhumicha was replaced by Dr. Debora Barasa Mulongo.

Since her dismissal, she has largely stayed out of the public eye, although she occasionally makes appearances. During her tenure at the Ministry of Health, Nakhumicha faced significant challenges, including ongoing doctors’ strikes. She later expressed that her biggest regret was not being able to resolve the issues that led to those strikes and have the doctors return to work more quickly.
