A 37-year-old man was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor aged nine years in Kiambu.

The accused, John Ndichu Gitami, was charged that on 4th June 2021 in the Nyauto area of Ting’ang’a location within Kiambu County, he used his fingers to penetrate the private part of JWW.

Senior Principal Magistrate M. Opondo ruled that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced Ndichu accordingly.

“He was convicted and sentenced after the prosecution presented a total of 7 witnesses in court,” the Director of Public Prosecutions stated.

“Before his sentence, a victim impact statement was filed where the court noted that the minor’s social life was affected and that her performance in school had  dropped.”

The court directed that the minor be taken to specialists for treatment and counselling.
