Police in Malindi have apprehended eight persons of interest believed to be members of a notorious gang that has been terrorising residents in the coastal town.

In a statement on Thursday, September 4, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that officers from Malindi Police Station confirmed that the operation was intelligence-led and coordinated by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

“The operation began with the arrest of one suspect who, upon interrogation, led officers to the Nat and Kwa Famau areas of Maweni. This resulted in the arrest of seven additional suspects believed to be members of a notorious gang known as ‘Team Nati Dread’. The gang has been terrorising residents in the area,” read the statement in part.

Furthermore, the NPS disclosed that during the raid, officers recovered three pangas, two mobile phones, and assorted jewellery suspected to have been stolen from victims of violent robberies.

Police say the eight are being held in custody and will be arraigned in court to face multiple charges, including robbery with violence and possession of stolen property.

“The National Police Service wishes to assure the public that such intelligence-led operations will continue relentlessly until all criminals are brought to book. Our commitment remains to the safety and security of all.”

This comes a day after a multi-agency security operation in Kitale led to the arrest of 14 persons of interest claimed to be behind a series of criminal activities in the region.

The sting operation, carried out across Umoja, Kisumu Ndogo, Tuwani, Bondeni, and Mitume, marks a significant step in efforts to dismantle organised crime in the area.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the arrests were made following a well-coordinated raid involving multiple security units.

“The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing profiling and processing, pending arraignment in court as the crackdown continues,” read the statement.

Additionally, the DCI revealed that the crackdown is part of a broader strategy to restore public safety and curb gang-related violence in Trans Nzoia County.
