Police in Awendo intercepted a person of interest transporting a sack of bhang along the Migori–Kisii Road on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, through their X page, the National Police Service said the operation followed timely intelligence about suspicious activity along the route.
“Police officers in Awendo, Migori County, yesterday intercepted and arrested a suspect who was transporting a sack of cannabis sativa along the Migori–Kisii road on a motorcycle.”
The person of interest, who is being held in custody pending legal proceedings, was transporting the bhang on a motorcycle.
Elsewhere, in a sting operation in Ahero, Kisumu County, NACADA officers working with police recovered sacks of bhang worth Ksh12 million hidden in a house and arrested four persons of interest.
“The suspect is being held in custody pending processing and court arraignment,” the police statement added.

Public urged to report
Community engagement remains a key part of the strategy. The police urged residents to report any suspicious activity, saying,
“We urge members of the public to report any suspicious activity, especially related to drug trafficking. You can contact your nearest police station,” the police said.
On the same day, police also intercepted another person of interest in Uasin Gishu County. Police officers from Kapsoya Police Station, while on patrol in the Munyaka area, intercepted one individual in possession of 168 rolls of bhang.
“Today, 9 September 2025, National Police Service officers from Kapsoya Police Station, while on patrol in the Munyaka area, arrested one suspect in possession of 168 rolls of bhang,” the police statement said.

The person of interest was escorted to the station and placed in custody, while the exhibits were secured at the facility.
“The suspect was escorted to the station and placed in custody, awaiting processing and arraignment in court, while the exhibits were secured at the same facility,” police stated.
Police reaffirmed its commitment to combating illegal drugs across the country, urging the public to continue supporting security operations by providing timely information to the nearest police station.
