Ruto pushes for deeper economic ties with US

President William Ruto has called for deeper economic ties between Kenya and the United States of America while seeking to expand new business and investment opportunities.

Ruto made his remarks on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, while holding a side talk at the US-Kenya Business and Investment Roundtable meeting, which brought together CEOs of leading American multinationals.

During the interaction, Ruto revealed he seeks to deepen and expand the current partnership between Kenya and the United States of America through introducing new business and investment opportunities.

“We seek to further deepen and expand the already robust partnership between Kenya and the United States of America with new business and investment opportunities,” Ruto said.

In addition, the Head of State, who is currently in the United States of America for the 80th UNGA event, noted that Kenya, which is now ranked Africa’s sixth-largest economy, is anchored by strong fundamentals, including low inflation.

Ruto further positioned Kenya as a country with a stable exchange rate and dependable connectivity.

He also noted how Kenya offers stability and investor confidence that global brands seek through its world-class talent, green energy, and a thriving digital market.

“Kenya, now ranked Africa’s sixth-largest economy, is anchored by strong fundamentals, including low inflation, a stable exchange rate, and dependable connectivity. With world-class talent, green energy, and a thriving digital market, Kenya offers the stability and investor confidence global brands seek,” Ruto said.

Ruto further noted how Kenya stands out as the natural gateway to Africa.

“Already a hub for apparel sourcing and with access to over USD 50 trillion in markets, Kenya stands out as the natural gateway to Africa. At the margins of UNGA 80, New York, addressed the US-Kenya Business and Investment Roundtable meeting, bringing together CEOs of leading American multinationals,” Ruto said.

Ruto’s visit to New York

President William Ruto arrived in the United States on Sunday, September 21, 2025, ahead of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The Assembly, which opened September 9, 2025, concludes on September 29, 2025.

The High-Level Week meetings of the UNGA bring together world leaders at a critical moment for multilateralism.

Ruto is pushing for Kenya’s role in global cooperation, calling for reforms of the financial system and demanding fair access to development finance for developing nations.

He is also expecting to advocate for a more inclusive United Nations that can effectively address pressing global peace and security challenges.
